UCI ANTEATER Racing Team!

UCI ANTEATER Racing Team!

UCI Racing Team was founded in 2005 by a group of passionate students in automotive engineering and racing, led by Professor Michael McCarthy. The team is divided into three types: Formula Racing, Electric Racing, and Baja Racing, creating different glories in different fields. The mission of the Racing Team is to promote automotive engineering and racing by participating in international racing competitions, and to provide a platform for future automotive engineers and race drivers to practice and learn. Let me introduce them one by one:

Formula Racing Team

This is a dream team. Formula Racing is something that many boys and girls have only seen on TV. Here, dreams come true. The Formula Racing Team has six sub-teams: Aerodynamics, Chassis and Suspension Design, Powertrain, Electrical Power Systems, Human Factors, and Vehicle Aero-Dynamics. Each sub-team has its own semester tasks. They conduct research and development in the fall, and then gather everyone's strength to assemble the car in the spring of the following year.

The Racing Team recruits from late spring to summer every year. Because there are competitions in the spring, each team member has a one-year commitment after joining. The Racing Team encourages anyone interested to apply. They have positions for any majors. The Racing Team currently has about 50 people. When looking for new members, Formula Racing has an apprentice position, which provides young students with growth and learning opportunities so that they can become engineers and team members in the future. You can follow Formula Racing's Instagram account @anteaterformularacing to keep up with the latest team news and recruitment openings. This year's Formula Racing is preparing to go to Michigan for a competition in May. Let's wish them good luck!

Electric Racing Team

Electricity is the protagonist of this team! In the midst of the rise of electric vehicles, this electric racing team is undoubtedly rising to the challenge. Whether it is the driving method or the safety system, it is very different from other racing cars. This race car uses 48-volt voltage as the main driving power source, plus a 12-volt auxiliary battery to power the rest of the car's systems. As a high-voltage race car, its safety system is also the most important. Therefore, the Electrical Engineering sub-team of the Electric Racing Team has the most team members. Their work includes 9 different safety systems to ensure the safety of the driver in extreme situations.

In addition to the electronic sub-team, this team also has other sub-teams: Aerodynamics, Chassis and Suspension Design, Battery Systems, Human Factors, and Vehicle Dynamics. The team's current task is to complete the prototype of all vehicle projects and then conduct project testing to ensure that every electronic component can function properly. From March to June, the team will work to complete the final assembly of the vehicle. They aim to go to Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside, California for competition in the summer.

The Electric Racing Team may recruit new members at various times each year. Especially now that many upperclassmen have graduated, the Racing Team urgently needs more ambitious and capable new students to fill this gap. In this new era, the development of electric vehicles are rapidly advancing, and the Electric Racing Team is at the forefront of this wave. Baja Racing Team

Racing isn't always about competing on perfect and flawless tracks. The Baja race course for the off-road racing team is known for its ever-changing muddy terrain. The cars not only pursue speed but also prioritize safety and stability! This race car's overall appearance is quite different from the previous two.

Its off-road shape and higher ground clearance make it better suited to outdoor environments. Based on different environments, this car has a strong torque compared to other cars. This allows it to easily climb mountains and wade through mud pits.

The off-road team usually recruits new members in the fall and spring., sometimes in the winter, but not always. They are looking for students who are genuinely interested in this field and those who are self-taught in areas such as racing and mechanical design. The team doesn't always require a lot of experience, but if you can bring any experience related to tools, welding, and other types of construction, whether in technical courses, internships, or as a hobby, the team will also consider it. The off-road team's application process is very rigorous and usually involves many technical questions. They don't always expect students to answer correctly, but just want to see if you can reason through the problems and demonstrate your thought process!
